Is Online Gambling Legal in Chile?
Not under any Chilean licence. Gambling in Chile is prohibited unless a law authorises it, and the laws that do cover land based casinos, licensed by the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego (SCJ), plus the state lotteries and Teletrak, which are authorised for certain games online. No law yet authorises private online casinos.
The courts have drawn the consequence. In September 2025 the Supreme Court, on an appeal by Lotería de Concepción, held that online betting and draws lack legal authorisation and ordered the main internet providers to block the sites involved. In October 2025 the Contraloría, Chile’s comptroller, added that the SCJ has no power to supervise online gambling, and that its role is to report such activity to prosecutors and the courts.
Casinos licensed abroad still accept Chilean players, and the casinos on this page hold licences of that kind.
Blocked Betting Sites in Chile
The blocks are carried out by Subtel, the telecommunications undersecretariat. On 1 September 2026, after the Santiago Court of Appeals ratified the measure, Subtel ordered Entel, Movistar, Claro, GTD, WOM and VTR to block 42 betting and casino sites by DNS within 48 hours. On 21 September it added 37 more domains. Subtel has said itself that no mechanism guarantees a permanent block, because platforms change domains easily.
For a player, a blocked site can stop loading overnight, taking access to the account with it, and reaching a blocked casino through a VPN creates more problems than it solves.
Chile’s Online Betting Bill
The bill to regulate online betting platforms, Boletín 14.838, entered Congress in March 2022. On 9 September 2026 the Senate approved it in general by 27 votes to 3, and it moved to detailed discussion in committee. As approved in general, it would:
- Create a licence for online platforms, issued for five years to companies incorporated in Chile.
- Charge a specific tax of 20% on gross gaming revenue, on top of VAT.
- Allow only licensed platforms to advertise.
- Require the conditions of welcome bonuses, including the wagering, to be explained clearly and without hidden restrictions.
The bill still has to pass its detailed Senate stage and the Chamber of Deputies before it can become law.
Are Casino Winnings Taxed in Chile?
Yes. The tax authority, the SII, states that cash prizes won by Chilean residents at international casinos, in person or online, are taxable income under article 20 number 5 of the income tax law, because no provision gives them any special treatment. They are subject to first category tax and then to global complementario tax in your annual return.
Prizes from the state lotteries are treated differently: they pay a 15% sole tax, withheld before you are paid. Chile is stricter here than many countries, and whether you pay tax on casino winnings depends far more on the country you live in than on where the casino is based.
Casino Bonuses in Chile: What to Check
Welcome offers at casinos accepting Chilean players are set by each operator under the rules of the licence it holds abroad, and the wagering and time limits differ widely. The terms beside each card on this page show what each offer asks of you before anything can be withdrawn.

Offshore Licences and What They Protect
Without a Chilean online licence, the regulator that matters is the one that licensed the casino, and the protection it offers on fairness, verification and complaints varies a great deal between authorities. That is what separates a local licence from an offshore one, and for a Chilean player it decides who will take up a dispute.
Our page of casinos by licence shows which regulator stands behind each casino, and how the main casino licences compare matters most on the day a payout is refused.
Self-Exclusion and Responsible Gambling in Chile
Chile’s self-exclusion system lets a player bar themselves from authorised land based casinos. It does not cover online platforms, so online the only tools are the ones each casino provides: deposit limits, time outs and self-exclusion on that one account.
Countries with a national online register work very differently, and how national self-exclusion registers work shows what Chile does not yet have. Support is available through the Ministry of Health’s Salud Responde line on 600 360 7777.
Casino Payment Methods in Chile
Bank transfers, Visa and Mastercard and cryptocurrency are commonly offered to Chilean players at casinos licensed abroad, and the methods each casino takes are shown on its card. Playing in pesos avoids a currency conversion on every deposit and withdrawal, though many offshore casinos hold balances in dollars or euros.
Our list of casino payment methods shows which casinos take each one.
How to Pick the Best Online Casino in Chile
For a Chilean player the licence comes first, because with no local regulator it is the only body that can take up a complaint. After that come the practical points: whether the casino takes your payment method, whether it holds your balance in pesos and how quickly it pays.
If payout speed matters most, start with the fastest paying casinos that accept Chilean players.
