    Is Online Gambling Legal in Belgium?

    Yes, with a Belgian licence. The Gaming Act of 7 May 1999 created the Gaming Commission, and online gambling was brought under it from 2011. Online licences are add-ons to land-based ones: A+ for online casino games, available only to the nine land-based casinos holding an A licence, B+ for arcades and F1+ for sports betting. All nine casino licences have been granted, so new online casino brands usually reach Belgian players through a partnership with one of them.

    The Commission keeps a list of illegal gambling sites, and internet providers must block them, sending visitors to a stop page instead. The Gaming Act also provides for fines for players who take part in games from unlicensed operators.

    Belgian Gambling Rules Since 2024

    The law of 18 February 2024, in force since 1 September 2024, set one minimum age of 21 for all games of chance and banned licensed operators from offering bonuses, free games, gifts or other benefits meant to attract or keep players. Paying for gambling with a credit card is banned, and a royal decree of 2023 removed most gambling advertising from TV, radio, print and public spaces.

    The €200 Weekly Deposit Limit

    Since 20 October 2022 every licensed online gambling site applies a deposit limit of €200 a week. The limit is set per site, not across all of them. You can ask an operator for a lower limit at any time, and only players who are not registered as defaulters with the National Bank’s Central Individual Credit Office can ask for it to be lifted.
