You take a bonus with a 35x requirement, play for an hour, and the progress bar has barely moved. Nothing has gone wrong. You were playing a game that counts for a tenth of what you thought, and the number that decided that is in a table most players never open.
Marcus Lindahl writes and edits the guides and casino listings on EZCasinoBonus. He works from primary sources rather than from other affiliate sites: where a page states a rule it names the instrument, from Article 29(1) of Malta's Player Protection Directive on payout times to the Kansspelautoriteit's own requirements on bonuses, so any claim can be checked in a click. He covers international markets rather than one country, and the pages say so when a rule applies in only one place. Where a figure cannot be sourced, the pages say so rather than estimating one, and they are updated when the rules change, which in gambling regulation is often.
The short answer: Every game carries a contribution percentage toward the wagering requirement. Slots are usually 100%. Table games are usually around 10%, meaning a €10 bet clears €1 of the requirement. Some games count for nothing at all.
Four Real Tables
Published figures, taken from four operators’ own bonus terms rather than from a typical set someone invented. What matters is not which four they are, but that they agree at the top of the table and stop agreeing below it.
Game type
What the published terms say
Slots
100%, at every operator reviewed
Instant win, scratchcards, keno

Blackjack and roulette

Poker style table games
10% to 20%
Video poker
5% to 10%
Live casino
5% to 10% under a standard casino bonus
Baccarat
0% to 10%, the most inconsistent line in any contribution table
Craps
5%
The consistency is striking on slots and table games and disappears everywhere else. Baccarat is worth nothing at one operator and the same as blackjack at another. Video poker is 5% at one and 10% at the next. There is no industry standard below the top two rows.
The Finding: Contribution Belongs to the Bonus, Not the Game
One large multi-market operator publishes two separate contribution tables, and comparing them is the most useful thing on this page.

Same brand. Same games. Completely inverted. A player who assumes slots always clear a bonus fastest will clear nothing at all on a live casino offer.
The rule to carry: Never ask what a game contributes. Ask what it contributes under this offer. The two questions have different answers at the same casino on the same day.
What 10% Actually Means
It means the bet counts, at a tenth of its size. On a 35x requirement with a €100 bonus, you need €3,500 of qualifying turnover. At 100% that is €3,500 wagered. At 10% it is €35,000 wagered to clear the identical bonus.
That is the whole mechanism, and it explains why a table game player takes ten times longer to clear the same offer while feeling like they are doing the same thing. Before any of that, what the multiplier is applied to decides how big the target is, and whether slots count decides how fast you reach it.
0% Is Not the Same as Excluded
A game at 0% counts for nothing but can usually still be played. An excluded game is a stronger thing. One operator’s terms say bets in those games “will only be taken from your cash balance”, so the system will not let you use bonus funds on them at all, and its excluded list runs past two hundred named titles.
What none of the four operators’ terms made clear is whether playing an excluded game while a bonus is live simply fails to progress the wagering or voids the bonus outright. None of them used the word void in that context. Assume it is operator specific and ask before playing one, because the downside is asymmetric.
The other trap in the same clause: Max bet limits. Published caps on bonus play run from around €5 to 15 pounds per spin. Breaching that cap is one of the most common reasons a completed wagering requirement is refused at the end, and it sits in the same paragraph as the contribution table.
Stake or Loss?
Almost always the stake, which is what you want. One operator states it directly: “contributions are calculated on stake amounts, not net loss.” Every €10 you bet counts as €10 of turnover regardless of whether it won or lost.
The fact that one operator felt the need to say so implies the other model exists somewhere. It matters enormously: under net loss contribution, a winning session would clear almost nothing. None of the other three operators addressed it, so if a set of terms is silent on this, it is a fair question for support.
Low Risk Betting Does Not Count
Every operator reviewed blocks it, and they define it carefully. One excludes low risk wagering “such as betting on red/black in equal amounts in roulette”. Another excludes any bet covering more than 65% of the possible combinations.
The point is that covering both sides of an even money bet would turn a wagering requirement into a formality at almost no cost. Operators removed that route years ago, and attempting it now generally forfeits the bonus rather than clearing it.
Where the Table Should Be
Ontario wrote the standard worth applying everywhere. Its Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming require that an offer “disclose all material conditions and limitations of the offer at its first presentation on the gaming site, with all other conditions and limitations no more than one click away”. A contribution table is a material condition, so a weighting list that took three clicks to reach is telling you something about the operator.
If you had to search for the contribution table, the operator has failed a test that one regulator has actually written down.
How to Pick the Right Bonus for What You Play
Open the contribution table before you accept the bonus, not after. Thirty seconds decides whether the offer costs you €3,500 of turnover or €35,000. Then play what that table rewards, and if you want live tables take a live casino offer rather than a casino one, because at some operators those are opposite instruments wearing similar names. If none of this is how you want to spend your attention, offers with no wagering at all delete the question rather than answering it.
Frequently Asked Questions
The percentage of each bet that counts toward the wagering requirement. Slots are almost always 100%, so a €10 bet clears €10 of the requirement. Table games are typically 10%, so the same bet clears €1. Some games count for nothing at all.
Usually at around 10%, which is what all three operators reviewed publish for blackjack and roulette. That means a 35x requirement on a €100 bonus needs €35,000 of table game turnover instead of €3,500 on slots. Baccarat is the outlier, published at anywhere from 0% to 10%.
Most likely you are playing a game with a low contribution rate, or one excluded entirely. The other common cause is taking a live casino bonus and playing slots, which contribute 0% under that offer type at some operators even though they contribute 100% under a standard casino bonus.
That each bet counts as a tenth of its size toward the requirement. Betting €10 progresses the wagering by €1. It is not a penalty on your winnings, it is purely a measure of how much turnover the bet is credited with.
Whatever the offer’s own table puts at 100%, which is usually slots on a casino bonus and live games on a live casino bonus. Do not assume slots, since at least one major operator sets slots to 0% under its live casino offers.
Often heavily discounted rather than excluded. Published rates for live casino run at 5% to 10% under standard bonuses, and one operator sets live games to 0% under a casino offer and 100% under its live casino offer. It depends on the offer type more than on the casino.
At some operators the system simply takes the bet from your cash balance instead of the bonus, so nothing breaks and nothing progresses. Whether it can void the bonus outright was not stated in any of the terms reviewed, so ask before playing one rather than finding out at the end.
Normally yes. One operator states that contributions are calculated on stake amounts rather than net loss, so every bet counts at its full stake regardless of the outcome. If a set of terms does not say this explicitly, it is worth asking, because the alternative model would make a winning session clear almost nothing.
No. Every operator reviewed blocks it specifically. One excludes low risk wagering such as betting red and black in equal amounts, and another excludes any bet covering more than 65% of the possible combinations. Attempting it usually forfeits the bonus rather than clearing it.
