Betsson | Details
Betsson is older than online gambling. The company behind it started in 1963, putting slot machines into Swedish restaurants, and when Sweden banned those machines in 1978 the entire business disappeared within a month. It rebuilt, bought its way into other things, and in 2003 invested in a small site called Betsson.com. Three years later the parent company took the name.
Six decades on it is one of the largest operators in Europe, turning over more than a billion euro a year, with a Lindwall still running it: Pontus Lindwall, son of the man who put the first machines in those restaurants.
Casino Welcome Bonuses
Betsson runs a separate licensed site in most of the countries it serves, so the welcome offer is genuinely different from one market to the next rather than one offer in several currencies.
The card below shows the version available where you are, and the terms behind it carry the qualifying deposit, the wagering and how long you have.
More Than A Casino
The product list is wider than almost anything else at this size. Casino and live casino, a sportsbook, poker, bingo, video bingo, scratch cards, horse racing. Poker runs on iPoker, Playtech’s network, which matters more than it sounds: shared liquidity across around twenty rooms is what keeps tables full and tournaments running.
Slots come from the studios you would expect, NetEnt, Pragmatic Play, Play’n GO and Evolution among a long list. Worth knowing that the size of the lobby is not the same everywhere, because what a studio may supply is decided by the licence in your country, not by the brand.
Latin America Is Where It Is Growing
The Nordic heritage is real but it is no longer the centre of gravity. Betsson holds local licences in Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, runs a separate site for each, and sponsors Boca Juniors, Atlético Nacional and Peru’s Liga 1. In Argentina it goes further and runs a different site per province, because that is how Argentina licenses gambling.
In Europe the most visible thing it has done lately is put its name on the front of Inter Milan’s shirt, which is a striking choice given Italy has banned gambling advertising outright since 2018.
Payments Are Market By Market
There is no single global list, and that is the right way round. Sweden gets Swish and Trustly. Argentina gets MercadoPago. Chile gets Webpay. Brazil and Mexico get Astropay. Greece gets Viva Wallet. An operator that plugs into what people in a country actually use has usually done the rest of the local work too.
Money returns the way it came, and the first withdrawal takes longer than the ones after it because your documents are checked once. Some payment methods are excluded from the welcome offer, so the one you choose can quietly cost you the bonus.
The Apps Are The Weak Point
This is the honest part. There is no single Betsson app; each market has its own, published by whichever company holds that licence. The iPhone build has not been updated since August 2024, and the Swedish Android app sits at under two stars from its reviewers.
The mobile site is the better route on this brand, which is a shame at this size, and it is the one thing here that a smaller competitor routinely does better.
Sixty Years Of Regulators
A company this old has a paper trail, and Betsson’s is mixed rather than clean. Sweden’s regulator fined it in 2020 and a court threw the decision out entirely. In 2025 it was fined again, this time over anti money laundering checks, the court upheld that one, and the appeal is still running.
None of that is unusual for an operator of this size in a market as strict as Sweden, and a regulator that publishes its decisions is the point of a licensed market working. It is worth knowing which regulator stands behind your account, and the licence you are playing under is shown at the top of this page.
Who Betsson Suits
Someone who wants one account to cover a lot of ground, and who would rather that account sat with an operator their own country regulates. If you play sports and casino and dip into poker or bingo, very few brands cover all of it under a local licence.
If you only play slots, the lobby is good without being the reason to choose this over anything else, and the app situation is a real mark against it. Set your deposit limits when you open the account rather than later, whichever operator you pick.
In most of the countries it serves, yes, and by that country’s own regulator. Sweden is licensed by Spelinspektionen under Betsson Nordic Ltd, Denmark by Spillemyndigheden, Greece by the HGC, Italy by ADM, Spain by DGOJ, and there are local licences across Latin America in Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. Everywhere else runs on a Malta licence. Which one applies to you is shown at the top of this page.
The company dates to 1963, when it put slot machines into Swedish restaurants as AB Restaurang Rouletter. Sweden banned those machines in 1978 and the business had to start again. It invested in the Betsson.com site in 2003 and took the name in 2006. That makes it one of the oldest companies in the industry by some distance.
Yes, on iPoker, Playtech’s network, shared with around twenty other rooms. Shared liquidity is the point rather than a compromise: tables fill and tournaments actually run, which is not always true of a room sitting on its own.
Same group, different companies. Betsson Group runs nine brands including Betsafe, NordicBet, Rizk and Jalla, and each sits on its own licence holders. That matters in Sweden, where a licensed operator may give you a bonus only on your first occasion playing with them, and the rule attaches to the licence holder rather than the group. A bonus taken at a sibling brand does not use up the one here.
Several, one per market, each published by the company holding that country’s licence. They are the weakest part of the product. The iPhone version has not been updated since August 2024 and the Swedish Android app is rated under two stars. The mobile site is the better route.
A long list, and it varies. There are separately licensed sites in Sweden, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Spain, Lithuania, Georgia, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Mexico, plus a Malta licensed international site for much of the rest. Some countries are excluded entirely. The card on this page shows what is actually available to you.
Yes, in Sweden, twice, with different outcomes. A 2020 decision over sales agents and a card linked to gambling was quashed in full by an administrative court in 2021, and the regulator chose not to appeal. A 2025 decision over anti money laundering checks was upheld by the court and Betsson has appealed. Published enforcement is a feature of a licensed market rather than a hidden problem, and both decisions are public.
